A lease looks simple, but this short document can be the source of long disputes. Review a few key clauses before you sign.
Clauses you should not omit
- The deposit amount and the exact terms for its return;
- A rent-adjustment clause on renewal;
- Responsibility for minor and major repairs;
- The clause and damages for delayed eviction.
Take the tracking code seriously
Registering the lease and obtaining a tracking code raises the document's standing and works in your favour in any later dispute.
Before signing, having the contract reviewed in a consultation costs little and removes a great deal of risk.
